The Little Elm Friends of the Library present Brenda Bennett of Communities in Schools with Books for Babies Baskets in recognition of her work with young parents of newborns of promoting reading as a nurturing bond between parent and baby. Books for Babies is a literacy program of the Friends of the Library USA- a program to acquaint parents with the important role they play in the development of their children. By reading to their babies and by becoming regular library users themselves, parents help their babies develop language skills and start them on the path to success in reading and learning. The program is underwritten locally by the Little Elm Friends of the Library.

Each basket includes Family Reading Tips from the Barbara Bush Foundation, Raising a Reader, Raising a Writer, a booklet from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, A booklet of finger plays and games, a board book and Baby's First Library Card -- to be brought to the library to exchange for the real thing, and a book mark listing hours for Saturday morning toddler time.

The Friends have also included in the baskets items for baby such as a Plush Toy, teething rings, and finger puppets. Several baskets also include reading materials in Spanish.
